Cultural Center Debate Reflection

The debate held on Friday helped to open my mind to the various sides to this issue. Although the opposition pulled up several points gaianst the construction of the mosque, citing historical refeernces and the location of nearby mosques, I still hold true to my view. I noticed that those against the mosque kept referring to Muslims and the terrorists by "they". Although someone tried to clear up that this was not intended, it brought to the light how we group together certain cultures. Like the quote says, "one spoiled apple ruins the bunch", I believe many view Muslims, due to Muslim extremists, in this specific way. Consequently, I feel that this is greatl unjust, and considering the many harsh remarks for the removal of this culrural center, against the consititutional rights in which this nation was founded on. It is also greatly poignant to observe and direct that this center does not only consist of a mosque, but of a recreation center, pool, and a means to observe  other religions. It is thus clear to point out that this CULTURAL CENTER is not a means of converting those around the area to the Muslim faith, which some on the opposition tried to make a point of. Accordingly, despite the heated debate held in class, I still strongly hold my postition for the building of this center.
